Pakistan launches locally developed satellite, boosting space ambitions
By Tanveer Ahmed :

Pakistan has successfully placed an indigenously developed satellite into orbit with assistance from China, in what officials describe as a significant step forward for the country’s expanding space programme.
The launch took place on Saturday from a Chinese facility and was confirmed by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, which said the mission reflects strengthening technological cooperation between Pakistan and Beijing.
According to officials, the satellite is expected to enhance Pakistan’s capabilities in communication, remote sensing and data collection, areas seen as critical for both economic planning and national development. It is also intended to support practical applications such as environmental monitoring, disaster response, agricultural management and urban planning.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said the development highlights Islamabad’s commitment to advancing its scientific and technological base, while making use of modern tools to address domestic challenges. The satellite’s deployment is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure for data-driven decision-making across multiple sectors.
Analysts say the project demonstrates steady progress by SUPARCO, the country’s national space agency, which has increasingly focused on building indigenous capacity while maintaining strategic partnerships. Collaboration with China has played a central role in this approach, offering technical expertise and cost-effective launch opportunities.
The latest mission builds on a series of joint initiatives between the two countries in recent years, as Pakistan seeks to strengthen its presence in the global space sector. Experts note that access to satellite technology is becoming increasingly important for developing nations, particularly in areas such as climate monitoring, food security and disaster preparedness.
Officials and scientists have welcomed the launch as a milestone achievement, describing it as a source of national pride and a sign of Pakistan’s growing role in space science. They say continued investment in the sector could open up further opportunities for innovation, research and international collaboration in the years ahead.
