Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has chaired a high-level meeting to devise a joint strategy aimed at improving airport operations and passenger convenience through closer coordination between key government departments.

The meeting, held in Islamabad, brought together officials from the interior and defence ministries to review measures for streamlining passenger facilitation at airports, including the capital’s main aviation hub.

Authorities agreed to introduce advanced screening systems and establish joint counters to enable a single-point checking mechanism, a move intended to reduce waiting times and congestion. Officials also reviewed progress on the installation of electronic gates to modernise passenger processing.

Mr Naqvi said a unified screening system would significantly cut delays and improve the overall travel experience, stressing the need for better coordination among agencies operating at airports.

Officials also discussed the import of specialised equipment aimed at reducing risks posed by bird strikes, which can affect aircraft safety.

The meeting included senior representatives from the Federal Investigation Agency and the Anti-Narcotics Force, along with defence and interior officials, reflecting a coordinated approach to airport management.

The government says the measures are part of broader efforts to modernise aviation infrastructure and provide faster, more efficient services for travellers.
