Islamabad Red Zone remains sealed as uncertainty surrounds US-Iran talks
By Sadia Khan :

Security restrictions were partially eased in parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday, but key areas of the capital remained under lockdown amid uncertainty over the arrival of US and Iranian delegations for anticipated talks.
Authorities kept Islamabad’s high-security Red Zone closed for a third consecutive day, with all entry points sealed and strict checkpoints maintained by law enforcement agencies, according to local officials.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said major routes leading դեպի the area, including sections of Srinagar Highway and Kashmir Chowk, remained inaccessible to general traffic. Employees of public and private offices within the zone were instructed to continue working remotely.
Public transport services across the capital were also disrupted, with metro bus operations suspended and several bus terminals closed. However, some routes and facilities began reopening, including a terminal at 26 Number Chungi.
Commercial activity remained limited in central areas such as Blue Area, while other markets in the city operated normally. Educational institutions outside the restricted zone continued in-person classes.
In neighbouring Rawalpindi, security was heightened around sensitive locations, including areas near the former Benazir Bhutto International Airport and along key road corridors. While no major road closures were reported, a strong police presence and ongoing checks were observed.
The measures come as Pakistan prepares to host a potential second round of talks between the United States and Iran, following a ceasefire brokered earlier this month.
US President Donald Trump recently extended the truce after a request from Pakistani leadership, saying it would remain in place until further progress is made in negotiations.
Despite preparations, no confirmed date has been announced for the next round of discussions, leaving the situation fluid as authorities maintain heightened security in the capital.
