TURBAT : A lady police constable was martyred while her husband and child sustained injuries after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on the family in Balochistan’s Turbat on Saturday, officials confirmed.

According to Balochistan Home Department spokesperson Babar Yousafzai, Lady Constable Shakeela was targeted in what authorities described as a terrorist attack near the Absar Research Farm area of Turbat.

Police said Shakeela was travelling on a motorcycle with her husband, Sunil Jan, and their child to a local market when unidentified attackers opened indiscriminate fire on them. As a result, the policewoman died on the spot, while her husband and child suffered serious injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Security officials said the attackers fled the scene after the assault. Police later registered a case and launched a search operation to trace those involved, while security at the entry and exit points of Turbat was tightened.

Condemning the attack, Home Department aide Babar Yousafzai termed the killing of the female police officer in front of her children an act of “open terrorism and extreme brutality”.

“This morning in Turbat, the brave daughter of Balochistan and police officer, Lady Constable Shakeela, was martyred in a terrorist attack,” he said.

Yousafzai claimed that terrorists fired 31 bullets at the innocent family and described attacks on women and children as evidence of a cowardly mindset.

“‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ shows no respect for women or innocent children,” he added.

He paid tribute to the martyred policewoman, saying she sacrificed her life in the line of duty and that her sacrifice would not go in vain.

“The people of Balochistan and security forces are united against terrorism, and terrorist elements are nearing their logical end,” Yousafzai said.

He added that despite such attacks, the morale of female security personnel remained high and the fight against terrorism would continue across the province.

The Home Department official also linked the incident to what he described as attempts by militants to spread fear and obstruct educational progress in Balochistan.

He stated that terrorists wanted to deprive Baloch youth of education by targeting teachers, educational institutions and women personnel.

Yousafzai said Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat was also martyred earlier in the day, while concerns persisted regarding the reported abduction of University of Gwadar Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir and Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Syed Manzoor Ahmed.

The two university officials reportedly went missing on May 14 while travelling from Gwadar to Quetta. Local sources suggested they may have been abducted along with their vehicle.

“Terrorists’ aim is to spread fear, ignorance and unrest in Balochistan, while anti-education elements seek to darken the future of Baloch youth,” Yousafzai said.

He maintained that the people of Balochistan, teachers and security forces had rejected the agenda of terrorism and ignorance and would continue resisting militant violence.

The latest attack comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Balochistan, where incidents of targeted killings, attacks on security personnel and alleged abductions have increased in recent months. Authorities have repeatedly vowed to continue operations against militant groups operating in the province.
