Booking.com confirms data breach exposing customer reservation details
By Tanveer Ahmed :

Booking.com has confirmed a data breach after unauthorised access to customer reservation information, raising concerns over potential misuse of personal data.
The company said it detected suspicious activity affecting a number of bookings and acted quickly to contain the incident. In emails sent to affected customers on Sunday, it warned that personal details including names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses and booking information had been exposed. Any additional information shared directly with accommodation providers may also have been accessed.
Booking.com has not disclosed how many users were affected, nor confirmed whether payment or credit card details were compromised, leaving uncertainty about the full extent of the breach.
As a precaution, the company reset reservation PIN codes and urged customers to remain vigilant against phishing attempts. Users were advised not to share sensitive financial information via email, phone or text messages, particularly in response to unsolicited requests.
The breach comes amid a wider pattern of security incidents linked to the platform. Earlier this year, cybercriminals gained access to hotel accounts and used them to send fraudulent payment requests to customers, affecting travellers across multiple countries including the United Kingdom, France and Singapore.
While the latest incident is said to be separate from those attacks, cybersecurity experts warn that the exposure of booking data could increase the risk of targeted scams. Customers with upcoming reservations have been advised to verify any payment requests directly with their accommodation providers before taking action.
