Pakistan has partnered with Google to launch a nationwide initiative aimed at equipping young people with artificial intelligence skills, as the country seeks to strengthen its position in the global digital economy.

The programme, titled “AI Seekho 2026”, has been introduced in collaboration with Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Telenor and Innovista. It is designed to provide free access to advanced AI tools and training for developers and young professionals across the country.

Led by Google for Developers, the initiative will offer cloud credits, technical resources and mentorship through global developer communities. Officials say the programme aims to remove financial barriers and expand access to emerging technologies.

A key feature of the initiative is the introduction of “vibe coding”, an approach that enables users to build applications using natural language and problem-solving techniques. Participants will use platforms such as Google AI Studio and Antigravity to develop software solutions.

The programme will be rolled out in phases. The first stage, running from April 11 to May 3, will focus on online training and challenges, where participants are required to build functional applications or games using generative AI tools.

In the second phase, selected participants will take part in in-person hackathons in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Competitors will develop mobile applications in a themed contest, with prizes including a Rs2.5 million award pool.

Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the initiative reflects a broader strategy to transition Pakistan from a service-based economy to one driven by AI-powered products.

She noted that with a majority of the population under the age of 35, the government aims to integrate digital skills across professions, enabling young people to compete in international markets.

Officials say the initiative represents one of the largest collaborative efforts in Pakistan’s tech sector, with a focus on building long-term capacity in artificial intelligence and innovation.
