Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has demanded that former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi be shifted to a hospital for medical treatment and diagnostic tests under the supervision of their personal doctors.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Barrister Gohar said the party had serious concerns regarding the health condition of both detainees and called for immediate medical attention.

He said he had been informed that Bushra Bibi was taken to hospital overnight for laser treatment related to her eye condition before being transferred back to Adiala Jail.

“I have requested for a family meeting today. Awaiting that — we have grave concerns about Khan sahib and Bushra Bibi’s health,” the PTI chairman said.

Barrister Gohar urged authorities to transfer both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to hospital facilities where they could undergo medical examinations and receive treatment in the presence of family members and under the care of doctors chosen by them.

“It is time to change this seek and hide approach to their health issues. Concern is growing. Immediate attention is required,” he added.

According to sources, Bushra Bibi was shifted to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital on Wednesday night under tight security arrangements for a scheduled follow-up examination related to a previous eye operation.

The former first lady had reportedly undergone surgery at the same hospital in April after complaining of impaired vision in her right eye.

Medical sources at the time said doctors diagnosed retinal detachment and advised urgent surgical intervention. The procedure was reportedly performed by ophthalmologist Dr Nadeem Qureshi along with a medical team.

Following the operation and overnight observation, Bushra Bibi was discharged and returned to Adiala Jail, where she has remained in custody.

Sources also said periodic follow-up examinations had continued inside the prison following the surgery.

Bushra Bibi is currently serving sentences in multiple legal cases, including the £190 million corruption reference and the Toshakhana-2 case involving allegations linked to the purchase of state gifts at reduced prices.

Imran Khan, founder of PTI and former prime minister, also remains incarcerated in several ongoing legal cases, while his party has repeatedly raised concerns regarding his health, prison conditions and access to medical care.

The government and prison authorities have previously stated that all legal and medical procedures concerning detainees are being carried out in accordance with prison rules and medical advice.

The latest statement from PTI comes amid continuing political tensions between the party and the government, with party leaders frequently accusing authorities of restricting access to Imran Khan and limiting information about his condition.
