Pakistan conducts training launch of Fateh-II missile, showcasing growing defence capability

Pakistan has carried out a successful training launch of its domestically developed Fateh-II missile system, the military has said, in a move aimed at strengthening operational readiness and testing advanced defence technologies.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said the launch was part of routine training designed to enhance troop preparedness and assess the performance of the missile’s systems. The Fateh-II is equipped with modern avionics and advanced navigation features intended to improve accuracy and survivability.

The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Pakistan Army Rocket Force Command, with senior military officials, scientists and engineers in attendance. Observers included representatives from the Strategic Plans Division and other strategic organisations involved in Pakistan’s defence programme.

According to the military, the test focused on validating technical parameters and evaluating various subsystems integrated into the missile. Officials described the launch as a successful demonstration of indigenous capability and technological progress.

The development was welcomed by Pakistan’s top leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, who praised the efforts of the teams involved in the programme.

The test comes days after the Pakistan Navy conducted a successful live firing of the Taimoor air-launched cruise missile, an anti-ship system designed to engage maritime targets at extended ranges.

Military officials said the recent series of tests reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s conventional defence capabilities and enhance coordination across different branches of the armed forces.

Analysts say such developments highlight Pakistan’s continued focus on expanding indigenous defence production, as countries increasingly seek to reduce reliance on foreign military technology while maintaining strategic deterrence.
