Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed head coach of Pakistan national cricket team for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced.

The two-match series, part of the ICC World Test Championship, will begin in Dhaka, with the opening Test scheduled from May 8 to 12 at the Sher-i-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The second match will be played from May 16 to 20 in Sylhet.

Sarfaraz, who captained Pakistan to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy, takes over coaching duties following the departure of Jason Gillespie last year. Interim arrangements had seen Aaqib Javed and Azhar Mahmood guiding the side.

Shan Masood will continue to lead the team, while former fast bowler Umar Gul has been appointed bowling coach for the tour.

The squad includes several new faces, with four uncapped players named alongside experienced campaigners such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi.

Players are set to assemble for a preparatory camp in Karachi later this month before departing for Bangladesh in early May.

The series marks Pakistan’s next assignment in the World Test Championship cycle, with the team looking to build momentum under its new coaching setup.
