s Tensions Rise Again Over Strait of Hormuz

Iran says it is examining proposals from the United States as diplomatic contacts continue, even as tensions flare once more around the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
A statement carried by Iranian state media said the proposals had been conveyed via Asim Munir during his recent visit to Tehran, adding that no formal response had yet been issued.
The development comes as Iran announced renewed restrictions on the vital shipping route, warning that the strait would be closed until what it described as a US naval blockade on Iranian ports is lifted. The move follows earlier assurances that civilian vessels would be allowed to pass under coordinated arrangements.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy warned ships not to approach the waterway, saying any violations could be treated as hostile cooperation. There was no immediate response from Washington to the latest announcement.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump said discussions with Tehran were progressing positively, describing ongoing contacts as “very good” and suggesting further developments could emerge soon. He insisted Iran would not be able to pressure the US by restricting access to the strait.
The renewed tensions come despite a temporary ceasefire that has paused weeks of hostilities. Iran has accused Washington of breaching the truce by maintaining restrictions on its maritime activity, while US officials have yet to publicly comment on the claim.
Reports indicate that senior US officials have held high-level meetings to assess the situation, amid concerns that fighting could resume if no breakthrough is reached in the coming days.
The crisis around the Strait of Hormuz — a key route for global energy supplies — remains closely tied to wider negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions. Although recent talks have narrowed differences, significant issues remain unresolved.
The conflict, which escalated earlier this year, has already had widespread regional and economic consequences. Diplomatic efforts, including mediation by Pakistan, continue as both sides weigh the next steps.
