Islamabad Tightens Security Amid Reports of Possible US-Iran Talks
By Sardar Burhan :

Security measures in Islamabad have been significantly stepped up amid growing speculation that the capital could host a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Senior police officials say preparations are under way at multiple levels, with a high-level meeting highlighting concerns over manpower shortages linked to the масштаб of the operation. Authorities have begun reinforcing key routes, including repair work along the Islamabad Expressway, to ensure smooth movement between Nur Khan Airbase and the Red Zone.
Thousands of additional personnel have been requested from Punjab Police, with several contingents already arriving in the city. Temporary accommodation has been arranged at various locations, including public facilities and educational institutions, as the capital prepares for a potential influx of high-profile delegations.
Further reinforcements from paramilitary forces, including the Pakistan Rangers and the Federal Constabulary, are also expected to support the operation. Security deployment is being expanded across key entry and exit points, sensitive installations and major public areas.
Authorities have placed the city on high alert, with intelligence agencies tasked with increasing surveillance in vulnerable locations such as informal settlements, wooded areas and transport hubs. Monitoring has also been intensified at hotels and guest houses, where records of visitors are being closely scrutinised.
The heightened preparations follow last weekend’s rare direct talks between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad, which marked their highest-level engagement in decades but concluded without a breakthrough despite lengthy negotiations.
Donald Trump has indicated that further discussions could resume soon, with Pakistan again being considered as a possible venue. However, officials in Islamabad say no formal schedule has yet been confirmed.
The diplomatic efforts come against the backdrop of a fragile ceasefire between the two sides, which is due to expire in the coming days, adding urgency to attempts to revive negotiations.
