Broader Conflict

Earlier Saturday, the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran, with President Donald Trump announcing the start of “major combat operations” aimed at destroying Tehran’s missile arsenal and preventing it from developing nuclear weapons. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps responded with a sweeping barrage of missiles targeting Israel and American military installations across the Gulf region.

Explosions were reported across multiple Gulf states, including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE. Qatar’s Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the Middle East, was targeted, with Qatari air defense systems reportedly intercepting incoming missiles using US-made Patriot systems . Bahrain confirmed that a service center of the US Fifth Fleet had been struck.

The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that the country was subjected to a “blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles,” adding that its air defense systems had responded with “high efficiency” and successfully intercepted several missiles. However, falling debris caused the fatality and material damage in a residential area of Abu Dhabi.

Regional Condemnation

The UAE has strongly condemned the attacks, warning of “grave consequences” if strikes continue. The foreign ministry stated that any attack on Gulf nations threatens the security and stability of the entire region and represents a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law.

While urging restraint and calling for diplomatic solutions, the UAE underscored that it retains its full right to respond in accordance with international law to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The escalation has prompted widespread airspace closures across the region, with global airlines suspending flights to affected areas and thousands of passengers left stranded.
