Yango Introduces Passenger Verification Badge to Strengthen Ride-Hailing Safety

Ride-hailing platform Yango Ride has introduced a new passenger verification feature designed to improve trust between riders and drivers, allowing partner drivers to see whether a customer has completed their profile before accepting a trip request.

The feature, known as the passenger profile badge, is being rolled out by Yango Group and marks the first time the company has made passenger verification status visible within the ride-booking process.

Under the new system, passengers who complete their profile by submitting required information, including their name and a selfie, receive a special badge on their account. The badge is then displayed to partner drivers when a ride request appears on their application, giving them additional information before deciding whether to accept the booking.

The company said the initiative is intended to address a longstanding challenge in the ride-hailing industry, where drivers often have limited information about passengers at the time a booking request is received.

According to Yango, the badge acts as an immediate indication that a passenger has completed the platform’s verification requirements, providing an added layer of confidence for drivers, particularly during late-night journeys or trips in unfamiliar locations.

The introduction of the feature reflects a broader industry trend towards strengthening trust and transparency on ride-hailing platforms as companies seek to enhance safety for both passengers and drivers.

Yango said early feedback from partner drivers has been positive. Internal surveys conducted by the company found that drivers reported greater confidence in accepting ride requests from passengers displaying the verification badge, especially during hours and in areas perceived as carrying higher risks.

Company officials believe the system could also encourage more users to complete their profiles, as verified passengers gain a visible indicator of credibility within the platform.

Commenting on the initiative, Santosh Pandey said trust in ride-hailing services depends on both passengers and drivers feeling secure throughout the journey.

He said the badge provides drivers with a reliable signal at the point when they must decide whether to accept a trip, helping to improve confidence and interactions across the platform.

The passenger profile badge becomes the latest addition to Yango’s broader safety framework, which the company says includes more than 25 in-app security features available before, during and after rides.

These measures include real-time route monitoring, driving behaviour analysis, emergency SOS functionality and route-sharing options that allow passengers to share trip details with trusted contacts.

The company said the latest update forms part of its continuing efforts to enhance safety standards and improve the overall user experience as competition within the ride-hailing sector continues to intensify across emerging markets.

Industry analysts note that safety and trust features have become increasingly important differentiators for ride-hailing platforms, with operators investing heavily in verification systems, real-time monitoring tools and identity checks to address concerns from both drivers and passengers.

As digital transport services continue to expand, companies are expected to introduce additional verification technologies aimed at making ride-sharing platforms more secure, transparent and reliable for all users.
