Islamabad deploys special Eid traffic plan around cattle markets
By Bilal Haider :
Authorities in Islamabad have rolled out a special traffic management plan ahead of Eid ul Adha, with more than 350 traffic police officers assigned to maintain smooth vehicle movement around cattle markets across the federal capital.
According to officials, the initiative has been launched to minimise congestion in busy commercial zones and provide easier access for residents purchasing sacrificial animals in the days leading up to the religious festival.
Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk said additional personnel had been deployed at key cattle market locations and surrounding roads to assist motorists and prevent traffic bottlenecks during peak shopping hours.
He urged citizens to avoid parking vehicles along roadsides near cattle markets and instead use designated parking spaces established by the administration. Officials warned that illegal parking could create severe disruptions on major arteries connecting market areas with residential sectors.
Traffic police personnel will continue operating on a round-the-clock basis throughout the Eid holidays to regulate movement and assist commuters, the CTO added. Authorities also appealed to the public to cooperate with officials and follow traffic instructions to help maintain order during the busy holiday period.
The rush at cattle markets has intensified following the announcement that Pakistan will observe Eid ul Adha on May 27. The decision was made earlier this month by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after confirmation of the Zilhaj moon sighting during a meeting held in Karachi.
Meanwhile, the federal government has already declared public holidays from May 26 to 28 to mark Eid ul Adha celebrations nationwide.
