By Tanveer Ahmed :

The government of Punjab has approved its first Artificial Intelligence roadmap, as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz unveiled an ambitious plan to position the province as the leading AI hub in South Asia by 2029.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the chief minister, where officials reviewed proposals to integrate Artificial Intelligence across government departments to enhance efficiency and modernise public services.
AI advisory board to guide policy
As part of the initiative, the provincial government approved the creation of an AI Technical Advisory Board comprising senior experts in technology and artificial intelligence. The board will guide policy development and oversee the implementation of the roadmap.
Officials said the Punjab AI Roadmap Manifesto will be formally launched later this month, outlining the province’s strategy for adopting emerging technologies across governance, public services and economic sectors.
World’s first AI delivery unit planned
According to the roadmap schedule, the province also plans to introduce what officials describe as the world’s first AI Delivery Unit at an international launch event scheduled for June 2026.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government aims to improve performance in multiple sectors through AI-driven solutions.
She emphasised that advanced technologies will play a critical role in strengthening governance and improving the quality of public services for citizens.
Push for digital transformation
The initiative forms part of Punjab’s broader push for digital transformation, as authorities seek to modernise government operations and strengthen the province’s position within the regional technology landscape.
Officials believe that integrating Artificial Intelligence into administrative systems could help streamline decision-making, improve service delivery and support innovation-driven economic growth across the province.
