Islamabad on High Security Alert as Police Cancel All Leave Amid Rising Tensions
By Muhammad Awais :

Authorities have placed the federal capital on high security alert, implementing strict checks at all entry points and cancelling all leaves for senior police officers as concerns over potential threats mount during Ramadan.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad issued an office order directing all supervisory officers—including DIGs, SSPs, SPs, DSPs, and SHOs to remain on duty until further notice. Previously approved leaves have been revoked immediately, and all personnel must report back to their units without delay.
Long Queues at City Entrances
Vehicles are facing lengthy delays at all entry and exit points, particularly during iftar and suhoor hours when traffic typically peaks. Officials have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with security personnel conducting searches.
A police spokesperson said the measures are necessary given the current security environment. The order applies to all staff, with only genuine emergencies approved by senior authorities considered for exemption.
Regional Context
The heightened alert follows recent militant attacks across Pakistan and escalating cross-border tensions. On February 6, a suicide bombing at a mosque on Islamabad’s outskirts killed at least 32 people, an attack claimed by Daesh.
The country also carried out airstrikes inside Afghanistan over the weekend, raising fears of potential retaliatory actions on Pakistani soil. Intelligence agencies have warned of possible terror attacks targeting urban centres, markets, and places of worship in coming days.
Security Preparations
Additional personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations, and Safe City cameras are being used for round-the-clock monitoring. A special traffic plan has been implemented during pre-iftar rush hours to manage congestion while maintaining security protocols.
Authorities stress these temporary measures aim to prevent any disturbance and protect citizens during a period of heightened concern. The public has been asked to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies working to ensure the capital’s safety.
