World Leaders Extend Ramadan Greetings as Moon Is Sighted in Several Countries

With the Ramadan moon sighted in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, the United States, and several other nations on Tuesday night, political leaders across the globe shared messages of goodwill to mark the beginning of the holy month.
In Pakistan, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) said Ramadan is likely to begin on Thursday, February 19, though the final decision will be announced by the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee.
US President Donald Trump, in a message issued by the White House, said Ramadan represents a time of spiritual reflection and gratitude. He emphasised freedom of religion as a core American value and expressed hope for global peace, unity, and compassion during the sacred month.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also wished Muslims a peaceful and blessed Ramadan, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford extended greetings to Muslim communities across the province.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted Ramadan as a time of forgiveness, kindness, and unity, noting that religious freedom remains a fundamental right in Australia.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer sent warm wishes to Muslims in Britain and worldwide, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan described Ramadan as a symbol of the city’s diversity and shared hope.
In the US, messages also came from Democratic Party, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Congress members including Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Adam Schiff.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted a simple Ramadan greeting, while city council speaker Julie Menin highlighted efforts to counter Islamophobia and improve access to halal food.
Several US state governors also issued messages, including Gretchen Whitmer, JB Pritzker, and Abigail Spanberger, all stressing themes of compassion, generosity, and community.
From North America to Europe and Australia, global leaders used the start of Ramadan to underline values of peace, reflection, and solidarity with Muslim communities worldwide.
