Pakistan Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, met Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his official visit to Jakarta, the military’s media wing ISPR confirmed on Friday.

According to the statement, the air chief highlighted the deep-rooted friendship and shared strategic outlook between Pakistan and Indonesia. President Prabowo showed strong interest in benefiting from the Pakistan Air Force’s advanced training systems and aerospace development framework to strengthen Indonesia’s defence sector.

Earlier, Air Chief Sidhu held separate meetings with Indonesia’s Defence Minister Lieutenant General (retd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and the Indonesian Air Force chief. He was presented with a guard of honour at each engagement.

In talks with the Indonesian air chief, both sides agreed to expand air force-to-air force cooperation, including joint training programmes, professional exchanges, and collaboration in emerging aerospace technologies. The Indonesian side also sought Pakistan’s assistance in enhancing operational and pilot training, acknowledging PAF’s extensive combat experience.

In recognition of his contribution to strengthening bilateral defence ties, Air Chief Sidhu was awarded the Medal of Honour, the highest distinction of the Indonesian Air Force.

He also participated in a joint session with Indonesia’s defence minister and chief of defence forces, where broader security and defence cooperation were discussed. Indonesian officials praised PAF’s professionalism, ongoing modernisation efforts, and the sophisticated facilities at Pakistan’s National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP).

The visit follows reports last month that Indonesia is exploring potential defence procurement from Pakistan, including combat aircraft and armed drones. According to Reuters, discussions are ongoing, focusing on long-term strategic cooperation, although no final agreements have been reached.

Interest in Pakistan’s defence industry has grown in recent years, particularly after PAF aircraft were involved in a brief conflict with India last year, which drew international attention to Pakistan’s air combat capabilities.
