Sindh, Google Partner on Digital Journalism Scholarships

Agreements for scholarships between the Sindh government and Google for the IT training and digital journalism program have been finalized.

According to details, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed during a ceremony presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. These included agreements for the Peoples IT Program and the Google Digital Journalism Scholarship.

Addressing the ceremony, the Sindh Chief Minister stated that thousands of students have acquired world-class IT skills, and so far, over 4,300 graduates are actively participating in various economic activities. He further mentioned that the inclusion of women and rural representation is a major success of the program.

Murad Ali Shah shared that 1400 million rupees have been allocated for PITP Two, under which 35,000 students will be trained in 12 advanced technologies. NED University, Mehran University, and Sukkur IBA will provide training under this program, and students from matriculation to graduation level will be eligible to apply.

Regarding the digital journalism program, the Chief Minister said that this project is a joint initiative of the Sindh government and Tech Valley. Under its second phase, “Digital Journalism 2.0,” one thousand scholarships will be awarded to journalists, government spokespersons, and media studies students. He stated that this program will prove to be a milestone in promoting credible journalism and transparency.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, speaking at the ceremony, said that the Google Digital Journalism Program will significantly reduce the spread of fake news.
