Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the United States and Iran to strictly adhere to the ongoing ceasefire, warning that sustained commitment from both sides is essential to prevent a renewed escalation of conflict in the region.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad after the conclusion of high-level talks, Mr Dar said the past 24 hours had seen “intense and constructive” negotiations between the two sides, facilitated by Pakistan. He noted that while the discussions did not result in an immediate agreement, they reflected a willingness to engage on key मुद्दों.

“It is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire,” he said, emphasising that maintaining calm on the ground was critical for creating space for diplomacy to progress.

Mr Dar added that Pakistan, working alongside senior military leadership including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, had played an active role in mediating multiple rounds of dialogue between the delegations. He expressed appreciation to both Washington and Tehran for recognising Pakistan’s efforts in helping bring the sides to the negotiating table.

Reaffirming Islamabad’s diplomatic stance, he said Pakistan would continue to facilitate engagement and dialogue between the two countries in the coming days, with the aim of achieving a durable and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

The talks in Islamabad followed a two-week ceasefire announced earlier this month after weeks of conflict triggered by US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which had led to significant casualties and heightened regional tensions. Despite the truce, major disagreements remain over Iran’s nuclear programme, economic sanctions and security concerns in the region.

Mr Dar voiced hope that both sides would maintain a “positive spirit” in future engagements, suggesting that continued dialogue — even without an immediate breakthrough — remained a crucial step towards de-escalation and long-term stability.
