World Welcomes Two-Week Ceasefire, Praises Pakistan’s Diplomatic Role
By Sabeeh Zanair :

Governments around the world have welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire in the escalating Middle East conflict, describing the move as a positive development and acknowledging Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in helping create space for negotiations.
The temporary halt in hostilities has been widely seen as an opportunity to revive dialogue between the United States and Iran, with several countries urging all sides to use the pause to pursue a lasting political settlement and avoid further escalation in the region.
Diplomatic sources say Pakistan played an important role in facilitating communication between the parties, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calling for a two-week extension to allow diplomacy to progress. Islamabad also urged Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz during the same period as a goodwill gesture aimed at easing tensions and stabilising global energy markets.
International leaders and analysts said the proposal helped create momentum for the ceasefire, which could allow mediators to intensify efforts to reach a broader agreement and prevent the conflict from spreading further across the Middle East.
The United Nations also welcomed the development, stressing that even a temporary cessation of hostilities could help protect civilians and provide humanitarian relief to communities affected by the fighting. UN officials called on all parties to respect the ceasefire and engage constructively in diplomatic talks.
The conflict has raised global concern in recent weeks due to military escalation, air strikes and disruptions to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for global oil supplies. The ceasefire is expected to reduce immediate tensions and allow negotiators to focus on a longer-term resolution.
Analysts say Pakistan’s involvement highlights its attempt to position itself as a mediator in the crisis, with officials in Islamabad expressing hope that sustained diplomacy during the two-week pause could lead to meaningful progress towards ending the conflict.
While the ceasefire has been broadly welcomed, world leaders have cautioned that the situation remains delicate and that continued dialogue will be essential to achieve lasting peace in the region.
