Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to accelerate efforts to transform Islamabad into a modern “Smart City Model”, with a renewed focus on technology-driven policing and urban management.
The decision was taken during a special meeting held at the Safe City Headquarters on Monday, where officials reviewed progress on the second phase of the Islamabad Safe City project.
According to officials, the interior minister instructed departments to complete all remaining work under Phase II by 30 May and emphasised strict adherence to the project timeline.
Naqvi also ordered an upgrade of the Central Command and Control System in the capital. The upgraded system is expected to integrate policing operations, traffic management and citizen services under a unified digital platform.
Authorities said the initiative would introduce modern surveillance and monitoring technologies aimed at improving crime prevention and traffic regulation across the city.
Speaking at the meeting, the interior minister said the government was deploying all available resources to strengthen Islamabad’s security infrastructure and improve urban management through technology.
During the session, officials also approved a new architectural design for the Safe City Headquarters as part of the broader modernisation plan.
Inspector General of Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the minister on the progress of the project, stating that around 75% of the work under Phase II had already been completed.
The meeting was attended by Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency Dr Usman Anwar, DG Safe City Haroon Joiya and other senior officials.
