Uncertainty has gripped Karachi just days before the start of the ninth and tenth grade matriculation examinations, with concerns emerging over incomplete preparations and missing documentation for thousands of students.

Students, parents and teachers have expressed anxiety after reports suggested that examination centres had yet to be finalised and that some candidates had not received their admit cards, raising questions about whether the exams could proceed smoothly as scheduled.

The Grand Alliance of Private Schools Associations Sindh has called for the examinations, due to begin on 7 April, to be postponed. The group said the current situation could disrupt the process for nearly 400,000 students and urged authorities to announce a revised timetable.

According to the alliance, unresolved issues including the allocation of examination centres, incomplete delivery of examination materials and delays in issuing admit cards could make it difficult to conduct the tests in an organised and transparent manner.

The organisation has appealed to Sindh’s Minister for Universities and Boards, Muhammad Ismail Rao, to delay the examinations by at least one week, arguing that additional time would allow officials to complete the required arrangements and ensure a fair and secure examination process.

It also warned that the uncertainty has placed considerable pressure on students, teachers and parents, saying that finalising logistical preparations at the last moment could lead to further confusion.

However, the Karachi Board of Secondary Education rejected the concerns, insisting that preparations had already been completed. A spokesperson for the board said admit cards had been uploaded to the board’s official website and that private candidates had also received their documents at their residential addresses.

The spokesperson added that the board’s office would remain open even during holidays to facilitate students. Candidates who have not received their admit cards have been advised to visit the board office, where assistance will be provided immediately.
