PM Shehbaz Urges Energy Conservation During Earth Hour Amid Middle East Conflict
By Sabeeh Zanair :

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said the government was taking steps to reduce the economic impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, while urging citizens to support energy conservation efforts during the global Earth Hour campaign.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the prime minister described Earth Hour as an important moment to reflect on the protection of the planet and the responsible use of natural resources.
“Today’s Earth Hour offers a solemn opportunity to do our bit for Planet Earth – our most precious resource,” Mr Sharif wrote.
He said conserving energy was not only an environmental responsibility but also an economic necessity at a time when rising global tensions were affecting energy markets.
“Energy conservation is in keeping with our obligations as guardians of nature. It is also an imperative given the economic pressures arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East,” he said.
The prime minister added that reducing electricity consumption could help ease financial pressure on households.
“Every unit of energy saved brings relief to households across Pakistan,” he said.
Mr Sharif encouraged citizens across the country to participate in Earth Hour, the annual global initiative during which individuals and organisations switch off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about climate change and environmental protection.
