The martyrdom anniversary of Ali ibn Abi Talib, known as Youm-e-Ali, is being observed across Pakistan with religious devotion and heightened security measures.

Mourning processions were taken out in several cities on Wednesday, with authorities implementing strict security arrangements to ensure peaceful observance and prevent any untoward incidents.

In Karachi, the main procession began from Nishtar Park and is scheduled to conclude at Imambargah Hussainia later in the evening.

The Karachi Traffic Police also issued a traffic diversion plan for the occasion. Containers and roadblocks were placed along M. A. Jinnah Road, particularly near Empress Market, Saddar, and Preedy Street to manage traffic during the procession.

Security has also been tightened in Lahore, where additional surveillance cameras were installed along the route of the main procession to enhance monitoring.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, the central procession emerged from Imambargah Qasar Zainabya.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with prominent religious scholars to review arrangements for religious gatherings and processions.

During the meeting, it was agreed that all processions marking the 21st of Ramadan, which commemorates Youm-e-Ali, would conclude before Maghrib prayers across the country. The duration of other processions will also be limited as part of the security plan.

Mr Naqvi said authorities would take all possible measures to ensure the safety and convenience of participants.

He also thanked religious scholars for promoting unity and harmony, noting that their support was vital for maintaining stability during challenging times. Clerics attending the meeting assured the government of their cooperation and pledged to discourage any attempts to create division within society.
