Pakistan’s Leaders Offer Condolences to Iran After Khamenei’s Death

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed condolences to Iran following the reported assassination of its Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, describing the development as a profound loss for the Muslim world.
In a post on X, the prime minister said the government and people of Pakistan stood with Iran “in their hour of grief and sorrow” and extended “the most sincere condolences” on what he described as Khamenei’s martyrdom.
He also raised concerns over what he termed a violation of international norms, saying that heads of state or government should not be targeted. The premier offered prayers for the late Iranian leader and for strength for the Iranian people to endure what he called an irreparable loss.
President Zardari Expresses ‘Profound Sorrow’
President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his condolences, according to a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat.
The statement said the president expressed “profound sorrow” over the deaths of Iran’s supreme leader and other senior members of its leadership. It added that Pakistan stood with the Iranian nation in this moment of grief and that the passing of a leader of such stature would be deeply felt across the Muslim world.
He offered prayers for the deceased and extended sympathies to the people of Iran.
PM Discusses Regional Situation with Jordan’s King
Separately, Prime Minister Sharif held a telephone conversation with Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss what officials described as the evolving regional situation.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments following Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent tensions affecting other countries in the region.
The prime minister expressed Pakistan’s deep concern over the escalation and stressed the need for restraint, dialogue and de-escalation to preserve regional peace and stability. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Jordan and other countries in the region during what he described as a challenging period.
In a separate message on X, Mr Sharif said both sides had emphasised the urgency of efforts aimed at restoring calm and maintaining close coordination on regional developments.
