Renowned Poet and Naat-Reciter Syed Salman Gilani Passes Away at 74

Prominent poet, naat-reciter and religious speaker Syed Salman Gilani passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed. He was 74.

Gilani had been undergoing treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital for heart and liver-related complications. According to family members, his health had been deteriorating for some time and worsened in recent days despite continued medical care.

Widely respected in literary and religious circles, Gilani was known for his heartfelt naat recitations and accessible poetic style. Admirers often described his delivery as simple yet deeply moving, resonating with audiences across generations.

His body of work included both devotional and non-devotional poetry, much of which was recited at religious gatherings and literary events. In addition to his spiritual verses, he also gained popularity for his light-hearted and humorous poetry.

Funeral prayers will be offered after Zuhr at Jamia Ashrafia in Lahore. Family members said relatives, students, friends and members of the literary community are expected to attend.

Expressing grief over his passing, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), described Gilani as a respected poet whose devotional poetry touched many lives. He said the late poet was close to his family and offered prayers for his forgiveness.
