Pakistan has successfully launched its second homegrown Electro-Optical satellite, EO-2, marking a major step forward in strengthening the country’s space and technological infrastructure. The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) confirmed that the satellite was successfully deployed into orbit from China’s sea-based launch facility in Yangjiang.

The satellite was fully developed within Pakistan at SUPARCO’s Satellite Research and Development Centre, where local engineers and scientists carried out its design, assembly, and system integration. Officials described the mission as a reflection of Pakistan’s growing technical expertise and progress toward self-reliance in advanced space technologies.

EO-2 will operate in coordination with EO-1, Pakistan’s first electro-optical satellite already in orbit. Together, the two satellites will provide continuous Earth imaging under different lighting conditions, allowing for improved monitoring of land, infrastructure, and environmental changes across the country.

According to SUPARCO, the expanded satellite network will play a vital role in multiple civilian sectors. These include agricultural planning, urban development, disaster response, climate analysis, and management of natural resources such as water and forests. The enhanced imaging capability is expected to support evidence-based decision-making at both federal and provincial levels.

Experts believe the launch also has long-term strategic value. In addition to strengthening national security and surveillance capabilities, EO-2 contributes to research development and workforce training in space sciences, helping Pakistan build a skilled pool of engineers and scientists for future missions.

The successful deployment of EO-2 highlights Pakistan’s steady progress in space technology and reinforces its commitment to using indigenous innovation for sustainable national development.
