Lahore: Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector has witnessed substantial growth during the current fiscal year, according to a report submitted by the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) to the Senate Standing Committee on IT.

The report reveals that the registration of IT companies in the country has increased by 19 percent, while IT exports have surged by more than 21 percent from July to April, surpassing $3.14 billion.

“The number of IT companies registered with the Software Export Board has now exceeded 20,000, reflecting a robust expansion of the industry,” the ministry said. A spokesperson further noted that Pakistan’s IT exports remain the highest among all service sectors, underscoring the country’s rising prominence in the global digital services market.

The ministry emphasised ongoing efforts to position Pakistan as an emerging hub for digital services, aiming to attract greater foreign investment and foster innovation within the sector.

Members of the Senate Standing Committee welcomed the progress and urged the government to continue supporting IT infrastructure development and skill enhancement initiatives to sustain this growth trajectory.
