PCB begins consultations on players’ central contracts for 2025-26

Lahore:
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday commenced initial consultations regarding the central contracts for national cricketers for the 2025-26 season.
The current central contracts, approved in 2023 during the tenure of former PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, are in their third and final year.
Despite the change in leadership, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi refrained from altering the financial framework last year, and similar stability is anticipated for the upcoming period.
Insiders suggest that while the overall contract structure will remain intact, minor adjustments in player categories could be made.
Notably, domestic performers showing promise in the emerging category may be included in the D category for the upcoming contracts.
The current cycle of central contracts is set to expire on June 30, and the PCB is expected to announce the new contract holders around October, following the precedent set last year when contracts were unveiled on October 27.
Last year’s distribution of players across categories included 2 in the A category, 3 in B, 9 in C, and 11 in the D category, reflecting a tiered system based on performance and experience.
