Young Doctors Temporarily Suspend OPD Boycott at JPMC After Four-Day Protest

ES Mag:
Karachi:Following four days of protest, young doctors at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have decided to temporarily suspend their boycott of outpatient departments (OPDs). The move comes after hospital administration and the health secretary assured them that several of their primary demands would be addressed.
The protest was initiated in response to a violent incident in the hospital’s ICU, where a doctor was assaulted by attendants of a deceased patient. The Young Doctors Association (YDA) condemned the attack and demanded action against those responsible. In a statement, the YDA highlighted the need for improved security measures and accountability within the hospital.
Dr. Farrukh, Chairman of YDA, stated that the administration has agreed to reverse the dismissal of Dr. Yaseen, arrest those involved in the ICU incident, and withdraw FIRs filed against doctors. He emphasized that while the OPD services have resumed, the protest will continue if all promises are not fulfilled.
The YDA’s protest had caused significant disruptions in patient care, with many patients unable to receive treatment during the boycott. The association has urged the administration to implement the agreed-upon measures promptly to prevent further unrest.
