FIT-2024: Showcasing Technological Innovation , Collaboration in ICT

Islamabad, December 9, 2024 – The Foundation for Information Technology (FIT) 2024 concluded successfully at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), bringing together prominent researchers, industry leaders, and global experts to discuss advancements in information and communication technology (ICT). The conference emphasized the transformative potential of emerging technologies in addressing global challenges and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Professor Dr. Sohail Asghar, General Chair of FIT and In-charge of CUI Islamabad Campus, delivered an inspiring opening address, highlighting the crucial role of ICT in shaping a smarter, more connected world. His insights resonated with attendees, encouraging them to explore innovative solutions and collaborations.
Dr. Majid Iqbal Khan, Program Chair of the conference, welcomed participants and provided an overview of FIT-2024. This year’s event saw a significant rise in submissions, with 410 technical papers compared to 260 last year. Following a rigorous blind review process, 85 submissions were accepted, reflecting a competitive acceptance rate of 21%.
The conference featured 20 technical sessions where leading experts and researchers presented cutting-edge developments in the field. Keynote addresses and invited talks were delivered by internationally acclaimed scholars and industry leaders from Germany, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Malaysia, and Pakistan.
In his keynote address, Professor Dr. Shoab Ahmed Khan, Chancellor of Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, spoke on “Generative AI, LLMs, and RAG: Transforming Academia, Industry, and Government for Pakistan’s Future.” Another keynote speaker, Professor Dr. Rajkumar Buyya, CEO of Manjra Soft Pvt. Ltd. and Director of the CLOUDS Lab at the University of Melbourne, explored the “Noetic Frontiers in Cloud and Quantum Computing.”
Wahaj Us Siraj, Founder and CEO of Nayatel, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. He shared his vision for entrepreneurship and the growing role of AI and IT in driving innovation and customer satisfaction in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), served as the Chief Guest, commending the conference for its role in advancing research and technology in the country.
Distinguished guests included Mr. Ying Shengxin, First Secretary of Science and Technology at the Chinese Embassy, Ms. Wang Chung Ping, CEO of Heroboss, and Mr. Wang Yiming, Public Affairs Manager at Huawei Pakistan. Their participation underscored the international collaboration fostered by the event.
At the closing ceremony, Rector CUI, Professor Dr. Sajid Qamar, presented shields to the Chief Guest and keynote speakers. He expressed his hopes that FIT-2024 would continue to serve as a platform for disseminating cutting-edge knowledge, addressing challenges, and building a strong professional community.
The two-day conference provided an opportunity for scholars to present their research, engage in technical discussions, and network with industry experts. As an annual event, FIT remains dedicated to exploring modern trends in computer science, engineering, and related areas, making it a key driver of innovation in ICT.
