Islambad: In a remarkable achievement, two teenage girls from the Ghanche district of Gilgit-Baltistan have conquered Teide, Spain’s highest mountain. Amina Hanif, 15, and Siddiqa Batool, 17, from Hushey valley, are the granddaughters of renowned mountaineer Abdul Karim, famously known as Little Karim.

Embarking on their adventure with their father, Mohammad Hanif, an experienced climber, Amina and Siddiqa have set a new record as the youngest mountaineers to summit Teide. Mohammad Hanif proudly shared on his Facebook page that his daughters made history by scaling Spain’s highest peak.

On May 25, the girls received the Best Hikers Award after trekking the country’s most challenging hiking route. This achievement marks the beginning of their mountaineering careers. They are determined to climb the world’s 14 highest peaks, including Mount Everest and K2, as mentioned in the Facebook post.

Masaam Tamaar, a colleague of Mohammad Hanif, told Dawn that the girls, along with their father, successfully reached the 3,718-meter Teide summit on Friday. He highlighted the challenges faced by the residents of Hushey, a remote area with limited resources, making mountaineering an expensive pursuit. The teenagers were sponsored by a climber in Spain.

Last year, Amina and Siddiqa set a world record by climbing the 6,080-meter Manglesser peak in Hunza’s Shimshal valley. The Alpine Club of Pakistan announced that the girls have been invited by the France Mountaineering Federation to climb some rock walls in France
