Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar engaged in discussions with Microsoft founder Bill Gates during the COP28 in Dubai, focusing on Pakistan’s efforts in the fight against polio.

The meeting saw PM Kakar updating Gates on the progress of the ongoing polio vaccination campaign in Pakistan, emphasizing the country’s steadfast commitment to eradicating polio entirely.

“Pakistan is dedicated to leaving no stone unturned in the fight against polio,” assured the Prime Minister.

In a separate address during the 28th Conference of Parties of the United Nations (COP28), PM Kakar urged the prompt implementation of the pledged US$100 billion for climate finance. Stressing the importance of climate actions in developing nations, he delivered the National Statement, highlighting that this financial support should not hinder development finance or contribute to the already substantial debt burden of developing countries.

PM Kakar called on developed nations to lead in amplifying global mitigation ambitions in line with their economic stature and historical responsibilities. He appealed for their support in assisting developing countries to achieve similar climate goals.

Advocating for global resilience, the Prime Minister pressed for an ambitious outcome in the form of a framework for a global adaptation goal, complete with clear targets and indicators. He underscored the importance of allocating at least half of climate finance to adaptation efforts.
