Lahore: Despite efforts by Punjab health authorities, the battle against dengue fever in the province remains challenging, with a significant increase in the number of patients.

Recent official data indicates that 223 new cases of dengue have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, contributing to the ongoing rise in patient registrations across government hospital dengue wards.

Lahore, in particular, is grappling with a severe situation, confirming 95 new patients. The spread of the disease appears to be at its peak, posing a formidable challenge for authorities.

Earlier assertions by health officials that the number of dengue cases would decrease with the onset of winter have not materialized. Instead, the figure has continued to rise, with the monitoring section of the primary and secondary healthcare department confirming 223 new cases.

The surge is widespread, affecting major districts such as Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Multan, and Faisalabad, where a high number of fresh cases have been reported.

Lahore tops the list with 5,412 cases recorded this year, followed by Rawalpindi with 2,533, Multan with 1,215, Gujranwala with 1,200, Faisalabad with 653, and Sheikhupura with 193.

Dengue, transmitted by mosquito bites, has now reached almost every district, causing a surge in patients seeking treatment in outpatient departments and dengue wards across hospitals.”
